First Step towards Salesforce Series : Chapter 2

Basic terms and business cases in Salesforce

Some of  you might be from Java,C# or any other language. Some of you might be from a non technical background. This Blog post is to let you guys understand about salesforce basic terms and there usage.

Scenario 1 :

There is a requirement of your company , Through salesforce they want to sell / rent property in different city under different owner. They want to automate the whole process using salesforce.

Scenario 2 :

There is a requirement of your company , Through salesforce want to built a school management system to automate different process which include test, result, attendance using salesforce.

Solution : For the above 2 scenarios if you are Java guy I know you can easily create a system which does the same. And for non technical I know you can use MIS or related to do the same. Now I will guide you what are the basic terms and how you can relate the same using the above scenarios.

Solution of Scenario 1 :

What will be the entity in the scenario 1 , There will be  owners having different property and each property will have different attribute i.e bathroom/kitchen.

While implementing any business process in salesforce , First of all we need to understand the business process and then start working towards the solution.

To start automating the process most basic entity i.e needed is object. So if you are building a school management system you need database which consist of tables , fields and records on which you will build the whole process and do manipulation.

For example in the case of School Management System :

Database Name:
School.

Tables (Object in Salesforce) :
Student , Subject , Classes,Teacher,Result

Fields :
In Student table fields could be :
First Name, Last Name, Age, Sex, Country,State,City.

And for Subject table Field could be :
Name , Language , Minimum Percentage marks etc

Records are the rows inside table.

Student table have record:

    First Name : Ritesh LastName : Jaiswal , Age : 29 , Sex: Male , Country : India , State : Delhi

    First Name : Amit LastName : Gupta, Age : 29 , Sex: Male , Country : India , State : Delhi

Salesforce Object
Salesforce objects are database tables that permit you to store the data specific to an organization.

Salesforce objects are of two types:

Standard Objects: Standard objects are the kind of objects that are provided by salesforce.com, such as users, contracts, reports, dashboards, etc.

Custom Objects: Custom objects are those that are created by users. It supplies information that is unique and essential to their organization. It is the heart of any application. It provides a structure for sharing data.

It’s important to understand what a database is in the context of Salesforce. When we talk about the database, think of a giant spreadsheet. When you put information into Salesforce, it gets stored in the database so you can access it again later. It’s stored in a very specific way so you’re always accessing the information you need.

An app in Salesforce is a set of objects, fields, and other functionality that supports a business process. You can see which app you’re using and switch between apps using the App Launcher (App Launcher icon).

Objects are tables in the Salesforce database that store a particular kind of information. There are standard objects like Accounts and Contacts and custom objects like the Property/school

Records are rows in object database tables. Records are the actual data associated with an object. Here, the 211 Charles Street property is a record.

Fields are columns in object database tables. Both standard and custom objects have fields. On our Property object, we have fields like Address and Price.
